1  Linux Stuff / Kernel / which sheeva-with-linux kernel can i run on: June 14, 2013, 08:19:05 AM
I have used the UPDATE-KERNEL.sh to retrieve 3.9.* from http://www.xilka.com/sheeva/ and they all fail to load

Starting kernel ...

Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.

And it locks up
So I got UPDATE-SHEEVA-KERNEL.sh and kept going back and found 3.7.9 would boot but nothing newer
My u-boot is U-Boot 2011.12-06918-gf33b06f-dirty (Jun 10 2012 - 18:01:14)
Any suggestions or pointers

I am attempting to update u-boot following http://www.plugcomputer.org/Documentation/howtos/re-building-the-kernel-and-u-boot
I have no problem building the new u-boot but the plug locks up

Search as I might I can not find info for using guruplug as an access point with any but the factory installation
I am running wheezy with sheeva-with-linux 3.7.1
Can someone point me to a howto

I have a Guruplug standard without the sata connector. I would like to add one. Has anyone done this? I read http://www.plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=927.30 and I think this would be much easier. Dmesg shows a active sata subsystem so maybe it would be as simple as adding the connector.

I respect your opinion but the question is, a stock unmodified Debian kernel supports an encrypted root fs and a SwL kernel does not, what do I need to do to get the SwL kernel to support an encrypted root fs?

An encrypted root fs is prudent whenever the hardware is in a place where it may be stolen. The Guruplug handles an encrypted root fs just fine as long as I use the stock Debian kernel. But, I wanted to get the wifi working and the best way I know is the SwL kernel. So how do I get the SwL kernel to work with an encrypted root fs? The message, http://www.plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=6145.0, says 3.4.2 and 3.3.8 support dmcrypt.

I built a ramdisk for 3.3.8 and got a little bit farther
Is there a way to contact the people who build the kernels at xilka.com

I have guruplug loading and running Debian Wheezy from a usb harddrive. I have 3.2 Debian kernel and root and swap encrypted. No problem. I loaded 3.4.2 kernel from SwL. I built a initrd and booted up. It asked me for the passphrase for root and swap and appeared to proceed ok then crash. Any ideas what caused this. I do have a third encrypted fs that is user data. It did not get far enough to ask for the passphrase for it.
The root fs is ext3 and the data fs is ext4 if that matters. Built the ramdisk as

update-initramfs -c -k 3.4.2

I have guruplug loading and running Debian Wheezy from a usb harddrive. I have 3.3.7 kernel from sheeva-with-linux. I plugged in a Displaylink usb to vga converter and used mplayer -vo fbdev to play an mpeg file. The stats counter says it is playing at normal speed but I only see a new frame about every 2 seconds. Am I just expecting too much?
