Amahi Announces New Plug Edition and Theme/Application Contest

The guys over at Amahi have announced the first release of Amahi Plug Edition for the Plug Computer platform based on the Marvell® ARMADA™ processor! The are all jumpy with excitement with this new "Plug Edition" release for the ARM ecosystem and the Plug Computing platform, in partnership with Marvell.

What is Amahi? It started as a simple idea to provide an easy way to manage a small network as an open source project. It was born out of a simple desire for a modular personal server that is easy to manage - making it an excellent match for the Plug Computer platform.

Amahi recognizes that eco-friendly technologies are a must and the Plug Computer brings a number of advantages to running a home/media server at very low power. If you already have a Plug Computer you can head the Amahi release page and see how to install it.

Amahi is also running a theme and application contest where six winners will receive plug computers. You can also win one by following Amahi on Twitter and retweeting their announcement.

The Amahi folks will also be attending PlugIN! and giving a session on community building. For developers interested in created service based applications which depend on community engagement and social networking, Amahi is an excellent case study to learn from having engaged more than 24,000 users.

Marvell and 4home Showcase Plug Computer for Energy Management at Connections 2010

Marvell and 4Home, a provider of connected home services software, recently introduced a new energy management solution, based on the SheevaPlug™, powered by Marvell® Sheeva™ CPU technology.

Marvell and 4Home will demonstrate the new solution at the CONNECTIONS 2010 show, the premier digital living conference and showcase, from June 8-10 in Santa Clara.

"With smart meters rolling out aggressively and driving concerns about both rising energy costs and conservation, there is a dramatic increase in interest for home energy management systems," said Rob Enderle, Principal Analyst for the Enderle Group. "The Plug Computing platform coupled with the 4Home ControlPoint software creates a compelling and cost-effective solution for the home owner looking to both conserve and better manage their home energy use."

The new energy management solution allows consumers to easily and reliably monitor and control their home's energy usage by simply plugging into an electrical wall outlet. With this new solution, consumers will have the freedom to self-track detailed energy records and leverage energy data to project and potentially drive down their future energy costs. Furthermore, with embedded features from the SheevaPlug, consumers can enjoy environmentally-friendly, always-on energy monitoring with zero-configuration.

"Plug Computing is gaining rapid adoption in the connected home market for its encapsulated product experience: just plug and go," said Dr. Simon Milner, Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise Business Unit, Communications and Consumer Group at Marvell. "The Plug Computer for energy management enables an entire ecosystem of green products to work together seamlessly, behind the scenes to allow consumers to manage their energy usage from their television, smartphone, or tablet."
